Osteopathy is a regulated primary healthcare profession, specialising in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and symptoms. Osteopaths are recognised by the NHS and have Allied Healthcare status.
In order to understand the nature of your symptoms and build a diagnosis Osteopaths take a comprehensive case history. We will talk through your presenting issue and your medical history. A thorough clinical examination then provides further evidence to better inform the diagnosis.
Osteopaths are highly trained to screen for red flags, which may indicate a more serious or underlying cause for your symptoms and are able to refer you to the GP and other health professionals, where appropriate.
Treatment may combine a range of modalities and techniques, from hands on approaches such as joint mobilisation, physical manipulation, stretching and massage; to advice regarding self-management, rehabilitation, injury management, exercise prescription, and education to help you understand your symptoms and any contributing factors. Treatment aims to not only relieve pain and improve mobility but to restore agency. We will work together to help develop your self efficacy, providing you with the skills and confidence to self manage, and increase your capacity to engage in your meaningful activities.
